Earth Hour in Malé

The bustling traffic in the capital city Malé will come to a halt on Saturday between 4 pm to midnight. The Ministry of Housing, Transport and Environment has ordered this in conjunction with the Earth Hour day. Emergency medical and National Security vehicles will be an exception to this.

Several outdoor activities will take place in Malé from traditional 'bodu beru' music and social gatherings celebrating the Earth Hour. The residents and transients in Malé are all encouraged to switch off or reduce the power usage in their homes and participate. The national television - TVM will show a blank screen with the Earth Hour logo during 8 pm - 9 pm that night.

Resorts such as Shangri-La with special coconut oil based massages and W Retreat & Spa - Maldives with acoustic music at FIRE & 7-course raw Earth-inspired menus at FISH will be celebrating the Earth Hour with their guests. The unwind® office will be closed during the Earth Hour and encourage all our fans to participate in Earth Hour in their respective locations.

Earth Hour is an annual international event created by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), held on the last Saturday of March, that asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.
